Practice Owner

Dr. Shannon Puype

Dr. Puype grew up in the Texas hill country, surrounded by family pets and drawn to horses from a very young age. Her love for animals led to her move to Stephenville, Texas, where she pursued a bachelor’s degree in animal science at Tarleton State University (2011-2015). While working toward graduation, Dr. Puype spent her time earning hands-on experience at a local veterinary clinic. After graduation, she continued her studies at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2019. Her career began in Shiner, Texas, where she practiced rural mixed animal medicine, enjoyed small town life, and met her husband. Three years later, Dr. Puype and her husband returned to her hometown, where she has continued to refine her skill set while practicing at a small animal general practice in Spring Branch, Texas. She enjoys small animal surgery, urgent care medicine, and all aspects of large animal medicine. When she’s not working, she loves cooking, traveling, being outdoors and on the water, and spending time with friends and family.

For the last 18 months, Dr. Puype has been a relief veterinarian at NB Animal Urgent Care and has fallen in love with the challenging, rewarding work required of her. In April 2025, Dr. Puype and her husband, Bradley Bongers, were presented with the opportunity to purchase the practice. Their hope is to continue providing exceptional urgent care services to New Braunfels and its surrounding areas, while also becoming active and involved in the community.

Practice Manager

Anna Armendariz

Anna Armendariz started working in the veterinary industry during high school, in 1996. She started by cleaning kennels and fell in love with the Veterinary industry, choosing to go on and pursue an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology and Animal Science from Palo Alto College. She graduated in 2004 a Licensed Veterinary Technician, and with hard work and a strong love for animals, diligently worked her way up from a position as a Vet Tech to Lead Tech, and then to Office Manager.

Great teamwork, communication, and their combined overwhelming love for animals make up the foundation of NB Animal Urgent Care. Anna has loved animals of all shapes and sizes since she was little, and has even worked with exotics including giraffes, monkeys, zebras, etc. She thoroughly enjoys all time spent with animals, especially her three bulldogs, Patrón, Brooklyn, and country legend George Strait.

Anna was born and raised in New Braunfels and loves the community so much that, even when she moved to San Antonio for a year and a half, she traveled back to visit every day. In addition to her full-time position here at NB Animal Urgent Care, Anna runs a Freshie business, Under the Sun in Texas, that is well-known in the New Braunfels community, and is the proud mom of her son Cory, who is studying to become a diesel auto mechanic. She likes spending time at the local parks and the river, enjoys fishing, and loves quality time with her friends and family.
